APD Tests
A current hearing test (within the last 12 months) is required before APD testing to ensure accurate results. If you don’t have one, we can help arrange this.
Your assessment combines a gamified at-home APD test on an iPad (about 15–30 minutes) with a comprehensive diagnostic (about 1–2 hours) conducted by an audiologist. We map key listening skills: listening in noise, both-ear (dichotic) listening, timing/pattern skills, phoneme (speech sound) recognition, and auditory memory.A pair of wired headphones is required for the auditory processing disorder test. Koss UR10 headphones are recommended.
Every test is tailored to age, hearing levels, reported difficulties, and any relevant health or developmental conditions. Short breaks are built in as needed to keep children (and adults) comfortable and focused.
Please refer to About Melody Hear For You for more information about the assessment and treatment models we use.
Results Discussion
A 15–30 minute Zoom meeting is usually scheduled 1–2 days after the APD assessment to discuss the results in detail. During this session, the audiologist will explain the findings, answer any questions, and outline the next steps.
If an Auditory Processing Disorder (APD) is diagnosed and the client is motivated to begin therapy, personalised therapy goals will be developed. Personalised therapy means the treatment plan is tailored to each individual’s test results — focusing on the specific listening skills that need improvement and the most common phonemic (speech sound) errors identified during testing. The discussion also includes which targeted auditory training programs are recommended to strengthen areas such as listening in noise, sound discrimination, auditory memory, and sequencing. If the test results indicate that the reported listening difficulty is not mainly auditory, we’ll recommend a referral to a speech pathologist for language/literacy support or to a psychologist/GP for attention and memory support.
After every test, you’ll receive a detailed, easy-to-understand written report that outlines test results and provides a recommended remedy plan—including classroom supports, home strategies, and therapy priorities if indicated.
